Javanese music

Monday the 6th of September Grenaa Gymnasium hosted a group of musicians and dancers from the other side of the world, namely Java in Indonesia. They are on a two-week tour in Denmark and we are delighted that they have also come to Grenaa. The visit has been arranged after one of Grenaa Gymnasium's music teachers, Ellen Møller, went to Java last year to study the traditional music of the island.

It turned out to be a very different and exciting experience for the audience with dance and shadow theatre, bronce cettles, drums and other instruments. After the concert the students were able to engage in a workshop in dance and music with the Javanese musicians as instructors.

Pretty soon the students experienced that the complicity of the music was high but stilll quite easy to learn. What a cultural experience. See more photos in our gallery.
