Congratulations to our IB-Students

The IB cap ceremony was celebrated 24th of May

Our IB students have already had their final exams. They were celebrated Tuesday the 24th by family as well as teachers. Parents, grandparents and siblings had come a long way to participate, since many of the IB-students have parents who live abroad. IB-coordinator Kirsten Bech Hansen and student Alex Goldhill held speeches, and Headmaster Ole Fjord rewarded quite a few IB-students this year:Frederikke Helleman, Leticija Petrovic, Merete Bachmann Jørgensen, Sheiq Mohammed Ghorwal and Barbora Sykorova.

There were two additional awards this year. A poetry prize and a prize for writing an excellent article about Shakespeare to the Association of English Teachers. Finally the Visual arts artwork of the year was revealed. It is going to be displayed somewhere at the gymnasium from now on.

IB does not follow the Danish terms and this is why the IB-student have already finished their exams by now. "Since the exams are written, the students will not have their final grades until the 6th of July", says Kirsten Bech Hansen, IB-coordinator at Grenaa Gymnasium: "At that point the Danish gymnasiums will be on summer holiday, and this is why we have chosen to give the students their caps already." 

Friday the 27. the IB-students will be driving around in the neighbourhood in a truck, so one might get a glimpse of them, if lucky.

IB award winners 2011

Djurslands Banks Legat (The IB Integration Grant): Fredrikke Hellemann
This grant is given to an IB student.
This student is characterized by a strong will and ability to make students from different cultural backgrounds work together and thereby achieve good study results. 

Danske Banks Legat 1 (Danske Bankøs Academic IB Grant): Leticija Petrovic
This grant is for an IB student at Grenaa Gymnasium who has worked with talent and diligence and thus enriched the overall teaching experience in class.

Danske Banks Legat 2 (The Boarding School Grant): Shaiq Mohammed Ghorwal
This grant is for an IB student, who has lived at the boarding school for a longer period of time, and who has been able to keep up well with school work while contributing positively to the social life at the boarding school.

IB-Wild Card legatet: Merete Bachmann Jørgensen
A grant from a dedicated teacher. The IB "Wild Card" Grant is awarded to an IB student of excellence and a student who has genuinely lived up to the IBO Mission Statement - someone who is believed to continue to be active, compassionate and caring, an example of peace, intercultural understanding and respect.

Grenaa Gymnasiums "IB Flower Award": Leticija Petrovic, Barbora Sykorova, Merete Bachmann Jørgensen
A special award 2011 for the publication of an article about studying Shakespeare.
